The Pegoretti Day is Done is the final expression of a lugged steel race bike. Modern Columbus Spirit tubing in the aesthetic of the classics, joined with stainless steel lugs. The oversized tubeset belies its traditional construction methodology, and the frame features trademark Peg race bike big-diameter stays a la the Marcelo and Responsorium. But, unlike the aforementioned frames, the Day is Done shirks the massive Breezer-style dropouts for slimmer-profile drops, joined to the stays at welded-on perpendicular tube segments (hence the appearance of drilled-out sections at the dropout). This not only lends a very clean, appropriate look, but offers the same level of stiffness as the hooded dropouts Dario tends to favor thanks to increased brazing surface area.
The inky black field of this Day is Done is accented by ruddy orange Venezia Stucco panels, and the frame practically shouts at you to ogle its minute details, from the beautifully sculpted fork crown to the oversized, orange-highlighted lugs. It's truly an incredible piece of craftsmanship, and the Day is Done is also a finality in the sense that Mr. Pegoretti has declined to make any more. This is the last one we'll ever see. For that reason, we dressed it to the nines. A full Campagnolo Super Record mechanical kit rolls on Campagnolo Bora Ultra 35 wheels, and a fi'zi:k carbon cockpit rounds out the build. Our final Day is Done is on its way to a happy client in Los Angeles, where we hope it provides a lifetime of happy riding! Thanks for looking, and enjoy the photos.
