Like many riders, I’ve always struggled with finding a comfortable pair of cycling shoes. Sure, my feet run a little wide, but not that wide, and probably not wide at all by most people's standards - they’re just not slim enough to squeeze into what some bike shoe brands think is a comfortable silhouette. Anyway, suffice it to say, I’ve always had to put up with a bit of pinching when I ride. Lately, though, I’ve been riding in complete comfort. What changed? I had the chance to ride a pair of DMT shoes.
You might know of DMT as the footwear brand of choice for none other than Tadej Pogačar. They’re also the powerhouse behind a heap of footwear innovations in other sports, too, not the least of which is their engineered knit technology. In 2018, they were the first company to create a full 3D knit road cycling shoe, and in 2020, the first to offer knit uppers for all genres of riding, including gravel and mountain bike.
And why are we telling you all of that? Because at AC, we're only interested in working with people who create great stuff, whether that's Italian cycling shoes, or next-level carbon fibre bike wheels. And for me, DMT's knit uppers are a game-changer. The knit conforms to your foot in a way that other materials can’t. You might think that would also make them unsupportive, but that’s not the case either, as Tadej’s power numbers would attest.
Coming from another brand, this would all seem a bit too good to be true, but the proof is in the winning, and two Tour de France yellow jerseys for Tadej while wearing DMT’s KRSL lace-up model is good in anyone’s book. There’s also a road shoe with a BOA closure called the KR0, which I wear, a mountain bike model, and a shoe aimed at bikepackers and fast gravel enthusiasts.
We’re pretty stoked to be working with DMT, so we’ll keep you posted on how we’re getting on as we put more miles into all of the various models. In the meantime, if you have any questions about the range, just let us know, and we’ll be glad to help you out. Stock is getting better all the time across the collection, so swing by to try and buy a pair from the studio here in Sausalito, or order online from the links below and we'll ship them to wherever you are in the world.
