City bikes tend to suck. They're often heavy, with cheap components and low-grade materials. Sometimes there's a cool graphic, but it's all lipstick on a pig. And because they're uninspiring, they don't get ridden and end up collecting dust. So when a client asked us to build him a no-holds-barred commuter, we jumped at the chance to show that about-town bikes can be just as ridiculously fun, vital and drop-dead gorgeous as any high-end road, gravel or mountain bike.
But first, we needed a frame that would radically challenge the notion that a daily driver can't be a dream bike. Enter the Prova Cycles Mostro platform, a titanium gravel frame made, like every Prova, to our client's exact measurements, complemented by a unique one-piece stem and bullhorn titanium handlebar - the perfect partner for the bike's cargo-ready Enve Adventure fork. Chips, guac and caviar.
Using Prova's gravel platform opened up our options for the wheels, which feature Zipp's 303 Firecrests on Chris King Hubs. Tires come from Seattle's finest, Rene Herse, whose Hatcher Pass 48c slicks will sail over anything the streets have in store.
Sat atop that astoundingly gorgeous one-piece cockpit are SRAM levers paired with a wireless 1x, elevated by Cane Creek's eeWings cranks. A smokin' White Industries headset and Ceramicspeed bottom bracket complete this city ripper.
