A Lotus-Inspired Mosaic GT-1 45

Julius Berith |

This customer came to us to build his forever bike, a challenge we often get presented with at Above Category and one we always relish.

After reviewing our portfolio of builders, we recommended Mosaic Cycles to our client, initially looking at the brand's 2-series line (stock sizing, raw finish, straight gauge tubing, and 2-3 week lead time - think Bobke's bike!) but after we talked about all of the options and wants/desires it made more sense to go with the brand's 1-series (custom geometry, custom paint, optimized double butted titanium tubing, and an 8-week lead time).

Here's what we put together:

  • Mosaic GT-1 45 frameset with a custom paint including a Lotus British Racing Green fade to custom Chris King gold match color and the brand's Artist Series Particulate. Mosaic also painted the seatpost and stem BRG to match.
  • The client chose the Chris King gold match color to build custom wheels in the future with the brand's gold hubs. Also, from Chris King, we managed to secure one of the last two-tone black and gold headsets in existence.
  • Keeping the future in mind, we opted for UDH and went with a SRAM Force AXS "Mullet" build, including a 46T 1X chainring up front and a 10-52 cassette out back, giving plenty of gear range both for climbing and descending.

I think this bike turned out beautifully and although the photography does provide significant detail, there's something about seeing the paint in person that makes you say "wow". I also really enjoyed working with this client because of their attention to detail and willingness to discuss all the options to make it their own. To use their words: "a collaboration that culminated in a beautiful and satisfying result...movable art".
