Carbon Copies: A BOTW Pinarello Dogma Duo

Peter Harrington |

Yes, you are seeing double. When one Dogma F is not enough, why not two? One for our client and one for his nephew - a carbon copy in every detail. Submissions for the coolest uncle in the world are now closed.

This brace of BOTWs celebrates the modern classic that is the Pinarello Dogma, the one bike that earns respect from the welders of the handbuilt world and the Grand Tour gallery in equal measure. However, there are Dogmas, and there are AC Dogmas. And this plucky pair benefited from a frictionless wishlist of our signature customisations fit to make a Belgian blush.

First off, let’s deal with the cockpit. Each bike features the stock MOST Talon integrated handlebar and stem, paired with the seat post and saddle of the same. However, we upgraded both headsets with Ceramicspeed coated bearings. These days, we do that almost by rote because in the modern world of integrated everything, if a headset needs attention, servicing it is a big deal. So bolstering it with components that are proven to work for the long haul and need little to no attention is a smart, time-saving move.

Both bikes feature the uncomplaining workhorse that is the Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 groupset, augmented with a Ceramicspeed bottom bracket apiece and Ceramicspeed OSPW derailleur pulleys. Gearing runs 50/34 and 11/34 on each bike. We did say they were identical. But wait a moment, did we say workhorse? We’re as guilty as the next rider of mentioning Dura-Ace and moving on, but therein lies the group’s charm and popularity - it’s bulletproof, light and utterly reliable. That it also looks stylish and appropriately-sized should be celebrated. We need more parts that don’t call attention to themselves, that run and run and function as described. All hail Dura-Ace.

With paeans to drivetrains complete, we’ll leave the running gear as we left it: with a waxed chain, primed and ready to whirl.

Now, to the wheels: Both bikes feature in-house custom creations that deploy Enve 4.5 rims laced to White Industries hubs with Ceramicspeed bearing upgrades. A set of Vittoria Corsa N.EXT tubeless tires put the rubber to the road. Completing the things that spin, both bikes sport Garmin Rally Power pedals. And while we’re on the topic of Garmin, the bikes feature matching Garmin 840 Solar computers.

A bevy of titanium bolts and a set of Arundel cages complete the build, the rear in gloss and the front in matte to correspond to the frame’s paint scheme.
