Wandering into a Porsche dealership can be a little intimidating. Out on the lot? Sure, Boxsters, Cayennes, a few stripper 911s, maybe some used P-cars in the mix. Test drive? Take one of those. Go behind the glass inside, though, and the real gems linger. A GT3 here, a Turbo S there. Maybe even a 918 is lurking in the corner. But roll it out for the day? In your dreams.
We're believers that there's still room in the market for performance metal bikes
It was that thought process that lead us to our next foray. Like Porsche's legendary 911 GT3, many of the bikes lying within our walls are hallowed unobtanium, entities unknown until after the CAD is drawn, after the tubes are cut, and after the plastic has been swiped. Modern titanium is still a mystical quantity, a matter of slight bewilderment to many of us raised on production carbon and the marketing heralding the triumph of epoxied fiber. We're believers that there's still room in the market for performance metal bikes, and we'd like to turn the notion that there isn't on its head with Above Category's new demo fleet, launching with three Mosaic RT-1s.
The RT-1 is Mosaic's top-level road offering, a Colorado-built titanium superbike with a custom-butted front triangle, fully custom geometry, an ENVE 2.0 fork, and a dashing raw aesthetic. We built our demo fleet around classic stage racing geometry, and outfitted the bikes with a classic Above Category-curated build with our favorite mechanical shifting group, Campagnolo Record. Complimenting Campy's shifting bits are their stellar Bora carbon wheels wrapped in Vittoria's Corsa. The cockpit is finished off with fi:zi'k's carbon R1 parts and an Antares saddle with matching tape. Retail pricing on the build is approximately $11,500.
Coming into San Francisco on business and don't want to deal with the hassle of flying with your bike? On the fence about carbon or Ti? Want to try Campy? Curious about the ride of a modern titanium race bike? We're here for you.
Our demo offering is a 51cm, 54cm, and 57cm Mosaic RT-1 assortment, all of which receive our pro tune before each use and a personalized fit to the bike. The initial daily demo rate is $250, with $175 for each subsequent day. Demo fees (to $1000) are applicable directly towards the purchase of a new bike from Above Category for up to 90 days after the demo. Demo includes a pair of AC bidons, an ample supply of curated ride food, and local route sheets. Additional concierge services are also available, including local pickup/dropoff service, guided rides, and the addition of a powermeter to the demo.
