Goodbye Robert, Hello Ted

Passing the Wrench: Goodbye, Robert

Goodbyes are bittersweet—an inevitable part of any long journey. Today, we say farewell to Robert Gee, our Service Manager of eight years, and welcome Ted Schwartz as our new Service Director.

Meticulous, careful with his words and a true creative, Robert forged a unique path in the cycling industry. From his early days at The Bicycle Business in 2010, to traveling with professional teams across the states and Europe, to building some of the world’s finest custom bikes here at Above Category, Robert established himself as a true master of the craft.

As a cornerstone of the AC team, Robert earned deep respect from clients around the world for his precision, technical knowledge and straightforward communication. While the exotic frames and standout builds may have drawn attention, his goal was always the same: making sure every bike left AC running safely, smoothly and as intended.

Robert’s story doesn’t end here. While he hasn’t given us the full details, Robert is planning to open his own service center and we couldn’t be more excited to see where this next chapter takes him. Thank you, Robert, for eight incredible years at AC—we’ll see you on the road.

Passing the Wrench: Hello, Ted

Without leaning on clichés, as one chapter ends, another begins. We’re excited to welcome Ted Schwartz as our new service director and lead mechanic. After seven years at Metier, one of the world’s premier cycling studios located in Seattle, Ted brings a deep well of experience and leadership to the role. We’re thrilled to have him take the helm.

Beyond the builds, Ted is a Cat 1 racer, adding a new level of speed and on-the-bike insight to the Above Category team. As a studio centered around the world’s best cycling products, his perspective plays a meaningful role in how we vet new builds and review products. From the build process to the first ride, our recent Factor ONE launch review is a great example of how we approach this in action.

When he’s not behind the stand or working with clients, you’ll find Ted in the saddle exploring his new backyard here in Marin County. From roller intervals to ocean-view descents, it’s safe to say he’s embracing the world class riding right out the front door— and if we’re being honest, the more cooperative winter weather too.

Welcome to the team, Ted!

If you’re looking to get your bike serviced or interested in starting a new build, drop us a line or stop by the studio in Sausalito and say hello.
