Bike of the Week: A Pair of Ti Provas Part 1 - A Racing Green Disc Machine

Derek Yarra |

We're excited to bring you all a special treat. A double feature of two custom Provas. The first titanium Speciales to grace our workshop. They share much in common, but are uniquely their one. One painted, one anodized. One disc, one rim. Equally stunning in their own right.

Kicking the party off, we'll drive our focus at the disc brake variant of the two steeds. An absolutely stunning creation with an ever classic Porsche inspired racing green finish, set off with geometric orange accents and a high polished rear end.

There's truly something special about the construction of a Prova Speciale. Maybe it's the 3D printed dropouts and lugs. Maybe it's the custom laid carbon seat mast. While so many little details shine on these bikes, it's how they all come together as a complete package that make them really something else. This one was painted by the master at Velo Craft, who conveniently share a workspace with Mark at Prova.

The steering is handled by a one piece unit from Black Inc, tastefully paint matched to tie together the whole bike. The one piece bar stem not only makes for a clean look, but also provides extra stiffness for precise control, as well as being lighter than a two piece counterpart. The compact bend is wrapped in perforated Deda tape.

While the front end is paint matched, the rear is built in. The carbon seat mast is finished off with a custom titanium 3D printed topper. The seat mast allows complete fine tuning of the compliance in the seat mast, making for a supremely comfortable ride. Capping it off is a Cadex saddle.

For a bike with this much class, there could really only be one drivetrain. Campagnolo Super Record EPS of course, in this case, a disc variant. The driveline is comprised of a set of 52/36t rings pulling an 11-29t 12 speed cassette. The Campagnolo calipers clamp down on a 160mm rotor at the front and a 140 in the rear.

And what does a bike like this roll upon? Clearly only something custom would do. A debadged pair of Enve 4.5 rims laced up with silver Sapim spokes to a set of polished White Industries CLD hubs. It bears mentioning that the hubs were completely rebuilt with a full Ceramicspeed bearing kit as well. Fast, smooth, and classy. A perfect fit for this build. Wrapping them up are a set of Vittoria Corsa TLR tires in 28c.

Taking things the extra mile, this bike is finished off with a Chris King headset, titanium King Cages, and of course coated Ceramicspeed derailleur pulleys along with a T47 bottom bracket.

Modern yet classic, this Prova is really nothing short of perfection. Beautiful in every way with all the right appointments to make it look and ride as good as it gets.
