BOTW: Harrison's Scarab Santa Rosa

Julius Berith |

Some bikes start with a spreadsheet. Others with a sketch. This one started with a reputation and a really unique paint job.

Harrison already knew he wanted a Scarab. He had seen the Colombian builder’s work online: bold paint, steel seams, and a personality baked into every frame. So he reached out directly. Scarab pointed him in our direction. “You’re in the Bay Area? Work with Above Category,” they told him. So he did.

This bike – Harrison’s fully integrated Scarab Santa Rosa – is a celebration of everything that makes steel great. Smooth, reactive, precise. Built around the idea that classic materials don’t have to ride like the past.

Santiago (Scarab’s founder) says that Santa Rosa is meant to prove that steel still belongs at the front of the group ride. Not as a nostalgic throwback, but as a fully capable, fully modern race machine. Clean lines. Integrated cockpit. All the performance cues you’d expect from carbon – just rendered in Columbus tubes and hand-welded with the kind of care that doesn’t scale.

This particular bike is deeply personal. Harrison worked directly with Scarab’s team through multiple rounds of renderings to get the visual language right. Clean, but not loud. His own logos are subtly incorporated into the scheme. Every detail feels intentional.

Build-wise, this one lands right in the sweet spot: SRAM Force AXS 2x for drivetrain duties, an Enve Foundation 45 wheelset, and a fully integrated Enve cockpit and seatpost. It’s tidy, fast, and keeps the focus on the frame. Harrison didn’t want bling for the sake of it.

Mission accomplished.

What’s it built for? Everything. It’s a pure road bike, designed for long miles and fast days – equal parts canvas and instrument. Built to last. Built to ride.
