Paul Budnitz, like us, is an obsessive. He created the art toy juggernaut KidRobot in 2002, bringing chic creativity to the world of playthings in a big way, detail-laden toys that more often than not become collector’s items. And, in 2014, he co-founded Ello, a new take on social networking, one that embraces minimalism and an ad-free environment.
Along the way, he founded Budnitz Bicycles, an ode to functional, elegant urban bicycles crafted from titanium and steel. Based in Burlington, Vermont, Budnitz is a brand committed to offering what CEO Jeremy Kent refers to as a no-compromise cycling experience to be used every day. We’re excited to partner with them and display one of their titanium No. 1 city bikes, one with a component spec handpicked by us at Above Category. The heart of the bike is an 11-speed internally-geared Shimano Alfine hub that spins on a maintenance-free belt drive, making the hills of Southern Marin easy to crawl up on lazy evenings. Stopping service is taken care of by Formula R1 hydraulic disc brakes, with Budnitz titanium fenders keeping the spray off the rider. Control parts are provided by Brooks, with the luscious honey leather B17 saddle and grips keeping things classy. The whole setup rolls on big Schwalbe Little Ben 40c tires, making the No. 1 cushy over all surfaces we can find in Sausalito. We're proud to partner with this visionary brand, and are excited to present the Budnitz test experience at an exclusive Above Category / Budnitz Sunday Social at our Sausalito showroom on May 1 from 1:30-5:30PM. Please RSVP at the Facebook event page here, and we’ll see you this weekend!
