This week we bring you a fresh Open UP build. Gravel bikes are getting tons of hype right now and it’s easy to see why. We’ve been in love with these bikes since we got our first demo in the door, and the feedback from our clients has been nothing but praise.
Massive amounts of tire clearance, indeed. This time we used 32c Maxxis Refuse tires, but we’ve had no problem running the 700x40c version as well, or the monstrous 27.5×2.00″ flavor on 650B mountain bike hoops.
The U.P. is finely designed for keeping things tidy. The internal cable routing, with a singular head tube port minimizes cable mess. The rear brake is very cleanly tucked in the drop out. While it requires a tool, the rear thru axle has no lever or arm hanging off the dropout for a nice, flush finish.
The wheels are a custom built set of Enve M50 rims laced up to Blue White Industry T11 hubs. The blue really pops inside the brown Open frame.
The Sram Force 1x group has been out for a while now and we’ve yet to stop loving it. Everything performs flawlessly and the 1x system is a great system off road, keeping the chain from bouncing around while still offering the full range of a road double.
We’ve been testing these with an array of different set ups. Big tires, skinny tires, 650b with extremely fat tires… any way you build it, the bike is nothing but fun. Interested in having us build one up for you? Give us a holler and we’d be more than happy to help you make it happen.
