YOKTO: WHAT CHANGED
Tune hubs have always been light. They've also historically needed adjustment more often than we'd like on a bike we're sending across the country. That was our hesitation going in. The Yokto hubs are machined from a higher-grade aluminum to tighter tolerances, and they're built to stay in adjustment rather than requiring a preload check. That's a small claim to make and a hard one to actually deliver, since it depends on precision across the whole system, not just the hub shell.
We put just under 1,000 miles on the Yokto 45/50, mostly in poor early-season conditions — rain, debris, rough pavement. Ran 32mm Challenge Strada clinchers on latex to start, switched to tubeless mid-test after slicing a tire on storm debris. They held their line under sprint efforts with Craig Upton and stayed composed descending in wind. For where they sit: it's a fair comparison to the ENVE SES 4.5 Pro, which we've spent a lot of time on. The Yokto comes in lighter, less expensive, and far less common. Both use a hooked bead, so clincher-with-latex or tubeless are both viable setups.
One constraint worth knowing before you buy: Yokto hubs are limited to 1:1 gearing or under.
NANO: BUILT FOR EVERYTHING ELSE
Tune didn't lead with the Nano gravel wheel. We were deep into testing the Yokto road wheels when Tune and Lightweight mentioned, almost as an aside on a call, that a gravel wheel was coming. We asked to be a launch partner and got a set — as far as we know, the first to land in the U.S.
The Nano runs a different hub platform than the Yokto: no gearing restriction, a heavier Sapim spoke, and a conventional build rather than the carbon-filament spoke tie. It's a durability-first design, not a last-few-grams design, and it looks the part — more understated than the Yokto out of the box, with a 30mm internal rim width.
We mounted Tufo Gravel Thundero tires, labeled at 44mm, measuring 47mm on the rim at 30psi. Beads seated without drama. On a 30-mile loop with 4,500 feet of climbing, split evenly between dirt and pavement, the difference showed up in grip and composure rather than in any single dramatic moment — tight acceleration, no vagueness on loose gravel descents, nothing that called attention to itself. The only real consideration is frame clearance: with a 30mm internal rim, real-world tire width runs into the high 40s.
The Nano hub also carries a few specific engineering changes worth naming plainly: a redesigned axle system that removes the need for shims when adjusting bearing play, hardened tool steel pawls and tooth ring in place of titanium (heavier, more durable under load), and revised sealing at the end caps to keep water and grit out during cleaning. Points of engagement run 69 standard, upgradeable to 138 by swapping from 3 pawls to 6.
