Unless you're up to speed with the latest developments in the world of textiles, GRDXKN® printing technology probably passed you by. Developed by a textile company in Munich, Germany, of the same name, GRDXKN® allows the printing of protection into the fabric of the material, helping to prevent or minimize abrasions resulting from a fall or dragging on the road at high speeds. And that's where the story takes a cycling turn.
Recognizing the potential of the new technology, cycling clothiers Q36.5 partnered with GRDXKN® to develop a capsule collection called 'Grid Skin' comprising a bib short and jersey that integrates printed protection on the outer sides of the bib body and the shoulders of the jersey.
As mentioned, this piece, the Q36.5 Grid Skin Bib Short, boasts GRDXKN® protection on the outer thighs, an area Q36.5 recognized was vulnerable to abrasion in a crash situation.
In the event of a mishap, the fabric reinforced with the GRDXKN® Technology creates a highly abrasion-resistant cushioning layer, which greatly delays the destruction of the upper material, distributes the force exerted by the fall, and absorbs energy, thereby significantly protecting the skin underneath it. Q36.5 has successfully tested the technology in crash simulations up to 100 km/h, so it's definitely up to snuff.
Away from the new tech, there's a lot more to cover, like the fact the bibs are made from 100% recycled material courtesy of a revamped UF Knit44 fabric. The bibs also benefit from an updated pre-shaped cut to enhance ergonomics, performance and comfort. With minimized seams and panels placed strategically to support the pedal stroke, it's evident that Q36.5's superb tailoring and thoughtful approach to apparel design informs all areas of the bib.
At the body, a new laser-cut finish on the waist area that matches the neat raw-cut leg hems is another clear example of a bib that goes above and beyond. And like all Q36.5 bibs, the Grid Skin features the Italian brand's signature lumbar support panel made from high-density stretch woven fabric augmented with silver thread.
Soft, supportive, melt-away bib straps and a sublimely comfortable chamois complete the bib.
