First, there were the OSBR gravel rides. Then came the OSBR Virtual Dirt Hill Climb. Now, we’re taking serious to the next level with the Officially Serious Time Trial - aka the OSTT. On June 26th, we’re lighting up the pavement on one of our all-time favorite climbs and getting back to our roots of pure road performance with an uphill TT in partnership with Bike Monkey.
Dive into all the details below, or jump straight to registration.
The solo time trial - the race of truth. You, your bike and the mountain. There's no purer test of mettle in the sport of cycling. It doesn't matter if you're fresh off the couch or approaching peak form, an individual time trial is a surefire way to assess your condition in a race that's as much about beating yourself as your fellow rider. So whether you simply want to meet your edge or see where you stack up in a field of peers, the OSTT is your chance to get out and lay it all down on the road.
The Officially Serious Time Trial will span the ascent of BoFax road climb, an icon of Marin cycling. The slithering climb from Highway 1 up to Ridgecrest of Mt Tamalpais is a segment sure to put any rider to the test. At just over four miles long, with a gasping 1,500ft of elevation gain, this steady yet twisting course will force any rider to manage their effort and keep their pace in check.
The Officially Serious Time Trial is a race of one, not a mass start event. Riders will depart at designated times and roll out of the starting gate at 1-minute intervals. And to manage the day, we’re thrilled to have the event pros at Bike Monkey handling the official timing and results.
Registration is open from now until Monday, June 20th. An official start time will be assigned to each rider closer to the race date, along with details for check-in/packet pick up, but expect kick-off between 8:00 and 10:00 AM. Be sure to get there at least 30 minutes before your scheduled start to check in and get your race number.
Please be courteous when passing other riders. Call out your moves and pass with ample room. Note that the race is happening on an open road. Be alert to oncoming traffic and while the road does not have a marked centerline, stay on the right side of the road. After your run, we encourage you to roll back down the course to cheer on your fellow racers.
Any bike is allowed so long as it is purely human-powered (sorry, no e-bikes), has functioning brakes, and is in safe working order. Riders are required to wear helmets while on the bike during the event.
After your race run, cruise back down the mountain and join us for the afterparty at Fritz’s Bikes patio right in Stinson Beach. Mingle with fellow riders and swap stories while recovering with food, drinks and watching the award ceremony. And after your exertions, you can enjoy a day at the beach or keep on riding to finish out the day!
If you’re local, we encourage you to pedal out to the start and use the ride as your warm-up. Public parking is available at Stinson Beach; however, we advise getting there early as it tends to fill up.
